Sober politics lacking in SA

There is a serious lack of sober politics in South Africa. We need to re-focus if we are to take our country to a better future - odd as it may seem. Here in the Eastern Cape city of Grahamstown we hosted COPE a few weeks ago, and being a voter who wanted to give COPE a chance to explain itself to me I decided to honour the invite - and it couldn't have been the most boring night of my life.

First of all, it is hard enough to listen to competent business woman like Linda Odendaal trying to sound just a bit political - but having to do that in the same night and place as Smuts Ngonyama bashing his former party is just so undesirable - and then there is a Malema version of that political party, Anele Mda.

As a neutral voter I always go to such places with an open mind, and going to a COPE rally or address and hearing its leaders bashing the ANC or any party for that matter, is just such a wasted time. South African politicians need to sober up and use their opportunities to at least tell the South African voters what they will do for them (not that they will actually do it). We need to end opposition politics if it is done just for the sake of opposing.

Look at the Democratic Alliance for instance, when or where has its leader - Helen Zille, ever recited a speech without refering to the ANC? It's possible that never, and never will that be in the future. We are a nation starving of real politics, please give us some serious politics like other countries have shown. Yes there will always be available opportunities for opposing, but doing it the way South African political parties are doing is just out of it, and it simply misses the point. Give us some sober politics to engage on, not pathetic politicking.
